Priory Golf Course
Updated 5th July
Greens
We have taken the opportunity to verti drain the
Moorland course on June 28th and 29th with the Priory
scheduled for Monday July 4th.
The greens will be groomed x 2 and double cut followed by spraying with
Instrata, Pro turf and turf hardener. This
work is deemed necessary following recent changes in the weather sending the greens
rather soft and soil samples showing early signs of disease however full
recovery of the greens is expected to be very quick in just a few days
Pathways
We have begun work on June 26th to
continue to improve presentation and travel routes during inclement weather on
both courses as well as tarmacking around the buggy compound and shoe cleaners
which can get messy. The following areas
will receive upgrades or new pathways:-
-
9th pathway will be upgraded with tarmac
-
12th tee hard standing to fairway
-
13th green all the way to gap in the
14th and all buggy users will be expected to use this route (not to
use steep slope to 13th
- 18th tee coming out of the woodland
Course Management
Please repair pitch marks.
Pitch marks with the recent turn in the weather
the greens are much softer and with this comes increase in pitch marks please
all ensure these are replaced on entering the green remember a pitch mark
replaced straight away repairs in 24 hours on that is left can take 3 weeks and
increased top dressings to level surfaces.
Other Course Points
The 13th ditch on the Priory is being
strimmed to aid speed of play as some of you wayward golfers have pointed out
to me this ditch is blind from the tee and with the grass being long finding
your ball is difficult.
We are also concentrating a lot of time to tees
by divoting more frequently, we have also increased fertility to aid recovery,
boy don’t we know it we are having to cut them 3 times per week to keep under
control.
Wildlife Update
All golf courses have a part to play in helping
to protect and encourage wildlife to their sites and there should be no reason
why we cannot all enjoy each other company its all about balance. This year we have the spotted the following:-
- Nesting pair of Buzzards on top of the 8th Priory
- Gray Partridges nesting in the 7th Priory wild flower area
- Hobby and Red Kite have been sited this year in the area along with Barn Owls and we will be locating owl boxes this winter to the lake area as this lowland meadow area is an ideal breeding ground
